Design and Color: Footsoldier®, Development: Chris Rickmond-Swan, PLM; Katie Lau

As a material developer, I had the opportunity to influence this construction. I came up with the idea to sublimate a monofilament before PU printing. Chris and I partnered on solutions to the various material failures at the factory along the way. Chris and I learned that monofilament doesn’t handle sublimation well. We solved various problems to account for color migration.

HOVR Phantom slip pride

Design: Yurri Mial, Development: Coral Hammond, PLM: Katie Lau

Tie-Dye was crucial to the 2020 pride collection. Taking inspiration from the hand-dyed original Pride Flags, the Phantom Slip Pride carried forward the handmade tradition in support of the LGBTQ community. After exploring the real tie-dye process, Coral and I influenced the team to move toward sublimation printing. The final shoe captures the spirit of tie-dye without compromising consumer fit expectation.

ColorShift

Design: Jessie Benjamin + Various, Development: Coral Hammond + Various, Material Development: Katie Wipijewski and me

Colorshift materials are challenging because it is difficult to meet color design expectations with supplier pigment limitations. I developed a shifting film in two colorways for the SS21 season to cover a variety of models. Coral Hammond and I worked through details to achieve this high-energy story.
