SS20 Print Application
Footwear designer, Jessie Benjamin, and I collaborated on these two print applications. The white shoe has a sublimation print beneath an open-hole single-layer mesh. I developed the single-layer mesh with the supplier for a unique mesh shape. The black shoe has a PU screen-print on a spacer mesh. I picked four closed-hole spacer mesh base textiles for Jessie’s selection. PU printing requires a base textile surface without holes.
Fine Print
These two skus were created in collaboration with Footsoliders® and UA designers. In addition to the print on the heel-underlay and lining, we also updated the laces. My early sublimation trials on other models in the story informed the location of the print application.
Metallic
I worked closely with Footsolider’s® designer, Hollie Myrie, and UA’s suppliers on metallic color matching. We matched lurex yarn in the vamp band with the metallic no-sew film. Choosing the proper rose gold and bright gold is challenging because the colors around the metal can impact the viewer's perception. Blacks can make bright golds look very green. Rose gold needs the right amount of pink to contrast the warm tan without looking garish.
